RAPID CITY –The Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board has made a powerful addition to its roster. Charles Abourezk has recently joined the Health Board as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and General Counsel. He will fill a position left blank by the departure of Margaret Bad Warrior, who returned to private practice earlier this summer.
Charles is a decorated attorney, instructor, and judge. Most recently, Charles served as the Chief Judge of the Oglala Sioux Tribal Courts and a Chief Justice of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe’s Supreme Court. He has also remained a Member/Partner–Abourezk Law Firm and Abourezk, Zephier, and LaFleur, PC. And is a current member of the South Dakota Advisory Committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights, Region 8, Denver, Colo.
The Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board strives to provide the tribal nations in the Great Plains region with a formal representative Board as a means of communicating and participating with the Great Plains Area Indian Health Service and other Health and Human Services entities and organizations on health matters.
