Action to Preserve the Sioux San Campus & Expand our Services

December 8, 2018

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I attached the press release announcing IHS’s declination of our request to build at Shepard Hills,  IHS’s map; (this is their document of the buildings they propose to tear down including 15 historic buildings).  They plan to board up the main building after the new clinic is built which will be an eyesore.  I also attached who to contact, and a sheet of scripts people can use if they need help with what to say in their emails or on their calls.

Please share these documents them with others who you know support the project and encourage them to call or email those who have the power to move this forward. Ask them to forward it to others as well.  If we can get some action on Facebook, it might help to counter the protest.   I know that there’s a Rapid City conversations page I don’t know if any of you are on that, but if we can upload it to tribal websites and on community websites, that will help. We will get it up on our Facebook shortly as well.

The likelihood of being able to restore hospital services will be greatly diminished if we can’t expand acreage. We want to restore hospital services within five to 10 years and have the tribes refer to Sioux San rather than Regional like they do in Alaska.  It is time that we bring resources back into the Indian health system, it’s doable but will be incredibly difficult if we don’t have expanded acreage to build.

Thank you,

Jerilyn Church, MSD

Chief Executive Officer
